our tree produced an abundance of portuguese figs this year, and then one of our lovely neighbours brought over a container of italian ones (pictured) from his tree. knowing i would never eat them all before they turned i decided to make, for the first time, strawberry fig jam. the combination is fantastic!

what happens when cohen has control of the camera. never one to stand still he thought he would see what happens when he opens the shutter and runs as fast as he can. i think he might be on to something.

the kids talked me into trying on my wedding dress (which was delightfully large on me) and then we took some photos (but oddly, none of the dress).

poor cohen. the accident at the pool finally played itself out in the form of an abscess (which we discovered the same day as the sliver) so on his first full day back home he had to go and have his other front tooth pulled. true to form, he was back to being silly in no time at all.

on the way home we made our yearly pilgrimage to the train place! in osoyoos. have you been yet? you really should get on it, it's where magic lives. honest. (and yes, that is a nude beach. the creators are european after all)

one last look at the trees then it was time to pack up, steal some kisses and say goodbye to our home in the forest.

out for a birthday fish in the canoe my brother made with the boys. the day started out so good! but then there was a sliver in cohen's foot and a trip to the hospital and then another hospital (the one i was born at!)and then surgery and the day slipped away into tears and anxiety. lesson: don't go for walks in the woods without shoes!

max and i wandered into nelson to poke around in the galleries for the day. so hot! and sunny! but we didn't care, we had such a great time anyway.

i tried to take a self portrait with the kids. this is what i ended up with. we were in kokanee glacier park so naturally cohen was doing his best sasquatch impersonation.

then we took a service road that wound it's way up to gibson lake. this place is pretty spectacular and not another person in site.
