For a couple of weeks now the leaves have been filling up the local parks and every day the kids insist on bringing fists full home. The usually sit there in a pile until the kids turn their backs and then I throw them back outside, but today it occurred to me to use them for a study in texture and the results were kind of neat. i was going through some drawers of crap tonight and came across this that I wrote when I was 16. sentimental and ridiculous? of course. and yet there is something in it that spoke to a truth of that time, of being 16 and having your parents get divorced. what will i think in another 20 years about this day, or this blog? there is a reassurance in the past as we look to the future and i was glad to have found this.

we decided to go for a drive to the states this afternoon (mostly to visit trader joe's). along the way we stopped at a target where the one member of our family who loves to shop proceeded to try on everything she could get her hands on, including this little number that she insisted I photograph. fancy!
